Born from necessity
The Freedom Market was established during a global shutdown in Eugene, Oregon. As local shops closed their doors to customers, accessing the essential goods that sustain our daily lives became increasingly challenging. With our usual community gathering spots unavailable, we faced the reality of social disruptions that left us longing for human connection. It became clear that we had to do something. We were determined to create a space and a system that would guarantee continuous access to the basic necessities of everyday life, ensuring that we could buy and sell in a new, innovative way. Out of necessity, the Freedom Market was born, securing our right to buy, sell, trade and barter.

Our mission
The Freedom Market vision is to provide people with access to food and other needed products and services regardless of shifting political and medical policies and/or mandates. We envision building relationships of mutual aid between people and farms.
Our values
Our core values are: honesty; freedom of speech and bodily autonomy; and freedom to buy, sell and trade with each other.
